The Green Heron
(Butorides virescens)

Most common through spring and summer here in NW Louisiana. A keen stalker and fisherman easily spooked if approached on foot. My best images have come from approaching lake areas via roadways in my van.

Green Heron will patiently wait and watch the water as if with xray vision, seeming to peer right through the surface at a swimming tidbit. They will often spear their prey as well as catching it in their beak.

A beautifully colored bird in the sunlight with an irridescent green covering their of my favorite subjects.
